Fall 2011 


  1. ENG 11011 COLLEGE WRITING I - STRETCH 
    • Introduces the instruction and experiences necessary for students to acquire college-level literacy, with an emphasis on reading and writing college level texts. 
      • Prerequisite: ACT combined English and writing score 1-16; or SAT writing score 200-420; or COMPASS writing score of 0-68.
  2. MATH 10021 BASIC ALGEBRA I
    • Includes operations on integers, fractions, decimals and percents, properties of real numbers. Introduction to variables, first degree equations and problem-solving with formulas. Equations and inequalities in one variable, linear equations, rate of change and slope, graphing in the cartesian plane. Hours do not count toward graduation. 
      • Prerequisite: none. 

Spring 2012

  1. ENG 21011 COLLEGE WRITING II
    • Continuation of college-level writing instruction with emphasis on research and inquiry, culminating in a lengthy written and/or multi-modal project. 
      • Prerequisites: ENG 11011 or ENG 11002 or HONR 10197 with a grade of C- (1.7) or above; or ACT combined English/Writing score 27 and above; or SAT Writing score of 600 and above. 
  2. MATH 10022 BASIC ALGEBRA II
    • Introduction to functions, systems of linear equations, exponents, plynomial operations, scientific notation. Factoring polynomials, solving quadratics by factoring, radicals and rational exponents. Hours not counted toward graduation. 
      • Prerequisite or corequisite: minimum C (2.0) grade in MATH 10021. 
  3. MATH 10023 BASIC ALGEBRA III
    • Zeros of functions, rational expressions and equations, problem-solving with rational expressions, intermediate factoring techniques. Quadratics: functions, graphs, equations, inequalities, "quadratic type" equations and problem-solving. 
      • Prerequisite or corequisite: minimum C (2.0) grade in MATH 10006 or 10022.

  1. PHIL 21002 INTRODUCTION TO FORMAL LOGIC
    • Techniques of formal logic, traditional and contemporary. 
      • Prerequisite: None.  (3 MATH COURSES)
  2. SOC 12050 INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY KENT CORE SOCIAL SCIENCES
    • Scientific approach to understanding social interaction, institutions and organization. 
      • Prerequisite: none.

  1. ECON 22060 PRINCIPLES OF MICROECONOMICS 
    • Kent Core-Social Sciences
    • Principles and policies affecting prices, including factor incomes, under alternative market structures. Tools developed to examine social problems, including poverty, crime, pollution and international relations. 
      • Prerequisite: MATH 10007 or one course from MATH 10023-49999; or ALEKS math upper-level minimum score of 30; or ALEKS math single assessment score of 45. 
  2. JMC 20001 MEDIA, POWER AND CULTURE Kent Core-Social Sciences
    • Fosters critical understanding of mass media in their historical, ideological, economic and cultural contexts. Examines what forces influence media and how media influence consumers. 
      • Prerequisite: Not open to journalism and mass communication premajors or majors. 
  3. NUTR 23511 SCIENCE OF HUMAN NUTRITION Kent Core Basic Sciences
    • Basic concepts and principles in the science of human nutrition, energy balance and weight control, individual nutrient needs, diet selection, nutrition related metabolism and physiological functions, nutritional diseases and current human nutrition controversies. 
      • Prerequisite: None. 
  4. PHIL 11001 INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY Kent Core-Humanities
    • An introduction to the diverse methods and subject matters of philosophy. Primary philosophic sources from varied philosophical traditions focus on at least three philosophic areas.
